PhilHealth: The Suspension of Premium Contribution in 2023 .ph 1 1024x683 1

The Universal Health Care (UHC) Law’s projected increase in the PhilHealth premium has been suspended, per a presidential order signed by President Marcos. According to the UHC law, the premium rate increase was set to begin in 2020 at a rate of three percent and grow to 3.5 percent in 2021, four percent in 2022, 4.5 percent in 2023, and five percent by 2024.

PhilHealth increased the contributions to 4% by the end of 2022. The monthly contributions for members who make P10,000 or more would have climbed to P450 from P400 if the 2023 raise had not been put on hold.

No Premium Increase in 2023, PhilHealth Reiterates

On Thursday, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) reaffirmed its commitment to help Filipinos financially in light of the socioeconomic difficulties brought on by the Covid-19 outbreak, while also acknowledging the need to reassess the existing contribution.

Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel Ledesma noted that the premium rate has not changed despite the suspension of this year’s hike. No premium increases will be made in 2023, and PhilHealth will maintain its 4% income cap. In especially for the direct contributors, he stated, “a separate advice would be prepared to offer the guidance implementing the said order.”
